Another Baby Girl!

That's right!  We are having another precious baby girl!  We are so excited!  Yesterday we went to have a 15 week 3D/4D ultrasound to determine the sex of our baby.  I felt in my heart that it would be another girl, based on the heart rate at our last two appointments, Ava was for sure that it would be a girl, and Kyle didn't really have any predictions.  We spent a good chunk of our Saturday morning watching our precious new baby inside my womb.  It was truly amazing!    She stayed in the same position the entire time we watched her...lounging away comfortably.  She is already a thumb sucker...she kept putting her thumb in her mouth throughout the entire ultrasound.  She also loves hanging on to the placenta that's floating around in there with her.  She held on to it with one arm and her hand was either by her mouth or in her mouth for the rest of the time.  This is totally unlike Ava when she was in the womb.  Ava was a crazy girl, flipping and flopping all around!

We had our baby's beautiful name already picked out.  Anniston Leigh Brooks.  We are so glad that we can talk about her and pray for her by name now.

Our afternoon consisted of telling the family what we were having and what the name would be.  My sister came up with a fun idea for a gender reveal party, so we had to tell her before that began.  We filled up a black balloon with pink confetti and let her pop it.  She was ecstatic!  We let Ava do the same thing with a balloon and she was happy, but it was no big surprise to her that she would be having a baby sister, she's basically known since day one.  The family came over and we divided them into four teams.  Each team had to put together a white puzzle that would reveal the name of the baby.  The team that finished first got to shout out the name for the rest of the family.  This was such a fun way to tell everyone!  After we shared the big news, we all came in and watched the DVD of the ultrasound and had some refreshments.  It was such a fun day!  Everyone is SO excited to welcome sweet Anniston to our family in November!

Ultrasound #2

Yesterday Kyle and I went for our second ultrasound. Our doctor was not 100% sure of Ava's position so she ordered us another one. We were both excited and anxious to see Ava again. Boy, is it different from 19 weeks to 37. She looks so smooshed in there! We got a picture of her beautiful profile and another that ensured us she is still a girl! We got to see her spine, her brain, her heart beating rapidly, and even her full little bladder. (Mine was about to pop since I had to wait 2 hours without using the bathroom. That was no fun at all!) The ultrasound showed us three main things. 1. Ava's definitely in the heads down position, 2. it looks like I am 37 1/2 weeks pregnant instead of just 37, and 3. She looks like she weighs about 7 lbs 9 oz. as of right now. The ultrasound tech kept telling us that her weight is an approximate. He said sometimes they are so close it's scary or so far off it's embarrassing ! Anyway, she sounds like she's at a heal...

The Week is Here!

We can't believe this is the week we will see our daughter. Some of you may be thinking, "What? How do you know? Your due date isn't even until next week!" Well, let me update those of you who may be thinking this. Last week, on Wednesday, we went to the doctor, hoping and praying that my body would be showing some progress towards having a baby. The doctor checked and informed us that the baby is still kinda high, and that I'm not 1 cm dilated, but I'm not 0 cm either. So she told us it was time to make a plan. Here's what she came up with. She said that if I am dilated 2-3 cm by this Wednesday, then she'll send me over to the hospital right then and start inducing me. But, if I'm not 2-3 cm then the following day, Thursday, she would do a c-section. She knew we were going to be on Fall Break and that we'd love to spend a couple of free extra days off with Ava so she said we could do it this week. She's going out of town on Fri...

Thriftiness Fun

Those of you who know me, or have spent at least 5 mintutes around me...know that I am one of the most frugal people on the planet. Why am I such a tightwad? Well...I think I gotta give the credit to my dad on that one. He taught me from an early age the importance of being smart with money. I saved up my birthday and Christmas money when I was very young just so that I could start my first savings account. I started babysitting at age 11 (which I cannot believe), and every bit of that went into my account. I did lots of odd jobs when I was a kid to earn and save a buck here and there, including collecting chestnuts from the giant trees in our backyard to sell at a local grocery store. (Have you ever seen where chestnuts come from?? A baseball sized ball of needles, basically.)  It was a tough job, but I was excited to be earning and saving. So that's the story of my thrifty beginnings, and it has continued to follow me into my adulthood. At this point in my life, saving money ...
