One Down, Two More to Go!

This week, we reached the second trimester of the pregnancy. I was very excited to meet this milestone for two main reasons...1st you can breathe easier because the baby will most likely be healthy and less chance of miscarriage and 2nd there is hope that morning sickness will be gone! Don't get me wrong, I wasn't as sick as some people who throw up 3 or 4 times a day, but just about every day all day I was nauseous and queasy-I only actually got sick 3 or 4 times a week. It really is true what women say, it seriously goes away as soon as you hit the 2nd trimester! What a relief!

Not too much is going on here. We are just trying to be patient and wait to find out the gender of our baby. Some days it seems like the days and weeks are flying, but then other days it seems like it is going slowly. I just can't wait to call and pray for our baby by name.

On a much funnier note, I think I will now include some of the awesome advice I have recieved from my 4th grade student, we'll call her A, for privacy sake!
  • The day I told my students I was having a baby, A came up and said (in a rough, manly voice), "How many weeks are you Mrs. Brooks?" I answered "11." She responded, "How's that? You can only dialate 10!"
  • "Mrs. Brooks, you better watch out when you go to the bathroom, or that baby will fall out! You gotta be careful!"
  • "Mrs. Brooks, when you have that baby, you're gonna bleed a lot. I just want you to know. That happened to my sister, she bled all over the place and had to take a shower!"

How a nine year old student knows all this is beyond my understanding. I am sure in the next month she will give me plenty more advice and I will try to remember to post it for your entertainment.

    Students are hilarious aren't they! At least she hasn't asked you how it got in there. I over heard two of my students pondering that once, but they didn't ask me directly. Gotta love kindergartners!

Freezer Cooking

Well, many of you know about my adventures in freezer cooking. Lots of people have asked how it works, how I do it, etc.  So, I've decided to blog about it.  I will include pictures, recipes, and a shopping list.  After all that, you will be set to try it with a group of your friends!  All of this ended up costing right around $92 per family.  We did a $50 deposit up front, and then the remaining balance was split up and paid the day we cooked.  This is enough for you and 4 friends to each go home with 17 meals in this day.  First off, let me list the meals you will make: Easy Cheeseburger Casserole (each family will go home with 2 of these) Tex Mex Chicken and Rice (each family will go home with 4 of these) Baked Chicken Fajitas (each family will go home with 2 of these) BBQ Chicken (each family will go home with 2 of these) Chili  (each family will go home with 2 of these) Chicken Casserole with Doritos (each family will go home with 2 ...

Totally In Love....

Well, since our last post, I gave birth to our first daughter, Ava. We are totally in love with her. She is perfect and beautiful and amazing. We can't thank God enough for this precious blessing. Let me update you on the last week. Last Thursday morning, we went and checked into the hospital at 9:30 for my scheduled C-section. The surgery was scheduled for 11:30. I felt pretty good up until the hour before the surgery happened. At that time, I got the nervous shakes. I was scared of going under the knife for my first time ever, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well everything went. The doctor was late so everything got pushed back about an hour which made the nerves really kick in. At a little before 1:00 I was wheeled in to the OR. Kyle had to wait in a little room until a nurse came to get him. I had to get my spinal tap and he couldn't be in there for that.
