A Fun Night Out

Saturday night, our family had a wonderful night out! Kyle's mom and her boyfriend invited us to go out to eat with them and we took them up on the offer! We went to You and Me restaurant downtown and had a delicious dinner outside. Ava loved spending time outside eating bread and watching the cars go by. She was in the best mood and waved at all the other diners. While we were eating, we saw a horse and carriage pass by. We decided that when were finished we'd see about taking Ava on a ride. We went to the square and there we found the horses. It was way after Ava's bedtime, but she was in the best mood so we ventured on over to the horses. She was so excited, she was laughing and squealing! I held her between the two horses for Kyle to snap a picture, but the horses kept trying to nudge me and it scared me quite a bit so I kept screaming and running away. Ava thought that was really funny, but we finally got a decent picture. Ava looks concerned about my behavior in it though! Kyle held her up to see the horses and she pet them and smiled at them. Then we loaded up on the carriage and Ava was ecstatic! She sat wide eyed and looked at the horses the whole time! The people who owned the horses knew Terri and asked if they could hold Ava during the ride, and she went right to them. She sat in between them all snuggled up in the lady's arms and held on to the man's shirt the entire time. The last ten minutes of the ride she fell asleep. It was such a fun time! I highly recommend others take a carriage ride with their families! It really makes you slow down and look at our community rather than hurry on through.

The Week is Here!

We can't believe this is the week we will see our daughter. Some of you may be thinking, "What? How do you know? Your due date isn't even until next week!" Well, let me update those of you who may be thinking this. Last week, on Wednesday, we went to the doctor, hoping and praying that my body would be showing some progress towards having a baby. The doctor checked and informed us that the baby is still kinda high, and that I'm not 1 cm dilated, but I'm not 0 cm either. So she told us it was time to make a plan. Here's what she came up with. She said that if I am dilated 2-3 cm by this Wednesday, then she'll send me over to the hospital right then and start inducing me. But, if I'm not 2-3 cm then the following day, Thursday, she would do a c-section. She knew we were going to be on Fall Break and that we'd love to spend a couple of free extra days off with Ava so she said we could do it this week. She's going out of town on Fri...

Can You Hear It?

Yesterday, Kyle and I went to the doctor's office to see if we could hear the heartbeat. As soon as I got there, the receptionist said that our doctor was out delivering a baby and it would be about 30 minutes before she got back. No big deal, I just waited. Then Kyle got there about ten minutes after I did, and we waited some more. And some more. Two hours later, we were taken back to a room where we waited for about 20 more minutes. And finally the doctor was there! No complaining, she's a busy lady! And I had my best friend there to keep me company. What more could a girl ask for....except maybe a cheeseburger-I was STARVING. We were so happy when she came in. I thought I was going to jump off the table. She started telling us about finding the heartbeat and how it could be difficult to find. She told us that if we couldn't hear it, we would schedule an ultrasound so we could SEE it. Well, as soon as she said that I started to get nervous we wouldn't hea...

Thriftiness Fun

Those of you who know me, or have spent at least 5 mintutes around me...know that I am one of the most frugal people on the planet. Why am I such a tightwad? Well...I think I gotta give the credit to my dad on that one. He taught me from an early age the importance of being smart with money. I saved up my birthday and Christmas money when I was very young just so that I could start my first savings account. I started babysitting at age 11 (which I cannot believe), and every bit of that went into my account. I did lots of odd jobs when I was a kid to earn and save a buck here and there, including collecting chestnuts from the giant trees in our backyard to sell at a local grocery store. (Have you ever seen where chestnuts come from?? A baseball sized ball of needles, basically.)  It was a tough job, but I was excited to be earning and saving. So that's the story of my thrifty beginnings, and it has continued to follow me into my adulthood. At this point in my life, saving money ...
