Ava: Becoming a Big Sister

Since Ava has learned she will be a big sister she has become even more hilarious than ever.  I thought I'd let you know some of the cute/funny things she has said lately.

The day we told her that there was a baby in my belly she really wanted it right then.  Then she lifted up my shirt to look at my belly button (she thinks that it is the baby).  I told her that the baby has to get really big before it can come out.  Now she checks the size of my belly button and declares that it has gotten bigger and it is ready to come out.

The other morning she was brought her Aqua Doodle Mat into our bedroom while I was getting ready for church.  She had really drawn a face (circle-ish shape with what looked like eyes and a mouth and hair too!).  She said it was Gammie.  Then she decided to draw Granny, and finish up her masterpiece with a picture of the baby in Mommy's belly.  She came to me so serious and said, "Mommy, does the baby have on panties?"  I said, "Nope.  No panties."  She goes back to her drawing for a second and comes right back.  "Mommy, does the baby have on a diaper?"  "Nope.  The baby is just naked in Mommy's belly."  She came back one more time to ask if the baby was sitting in a baby seat.  She wanted to make sure she drew the baby just right.  How cute is that?

Another morning she was playing with a baby doll and she said, "This is my baby sister."  I replied, "Awww she is SO cute.  What's her name?"  Her answer, "Gilbert."  Nice, huh?

She's really excited about being a big sister and she is convinced it is a girl!  Let's see if she's right.

The Week is Here!

We can't believe this is the week we will see our daughter. Some of you may be thinking, "What? How do you know? Your due date isn't even until next week!" Well, let me update those of you who may be thinking this. Last week, on Wednesday, we went to the doctor, hoping and praying that my body would be showing some progress towards having a baby. The doctor checked and informed us that the baby is still kinda high, and that I'm not 1 cm dilated, but I'm not 0 cm either. So she told us it was time to make a plan. Here's what she came up with. She said that if I am dilated 2-3 cm by this Wednesday, then she'll send me over to the hospital right then and start inducing me. But, if I'm not 2-3 cm then the following day, Thursday, she would do a c-section. She knew we were going to be on Fall Break and that we'd love to spend a couple of free extra days off with Ava so she said we could do it this week. She's going out of town on Fri...

Can You Hear It?

Yesterday, Kyle and I went to the doctor's office to see if we could hear the heartbeat. As soon as I got there, the receptionist said that our doctor was out delivering a baby and it would be about 30 minutes before she got back. No big deal, I just waited. Then Kyle got there about ten minutes after I did, and we waited some more. And some more. Two hours later, we were taken back to a room where we waited for about 20 more minutes. And finally the doctor was there! No complaining, she's a busy lady! And I had my best friend there to keep me company. What more could a girl ask for....except maybe a cheeseburger-I was STARVING. We were so happy when she came in. I thought I was going to jump off the table. She started telling us about finding the heartbeat and how it could be difficult to find. She told us that if we couldn't hear it, we would schedule an ultrasound so we could SEE it. Well, as soon as she said that I started to get nervous we wouldn't hea...

Thriftiness Fun

Those of you who know me, or have spent at least 5 mintutes around me...know that I am one of the most frugal people on the planet. Why am I such a tightwad? Well...I think I gotta give the credit to my dad on that one. He taught me from an early age the importance of being smart with money. I saved up my birthday and Christmas money when I was very young just so that I could start my first savings account. I started babysitting at age 11 (which I cannot believe), and every bit of that went into my account. I did lots of odd jobs when I was a kid to earn and save a buck here and there, including collecting chestnuts from the giant trees in our backyard to sell at a local grocery store. (Have you ever seen where chestnuts come from?? A baseball sized ball of needles, basically.)  It was a tough job, but I was excited to be earning and saving. So that's the story of my thrifty beginnings, and it has continued to follow me into my adulthood. At this point in my life, saving money ...
