Summer Happenings

So far this summer has been fabulous!  We are so enjoying our family time.  I sometimes just have to stop and think about how blessed I am to have a husband and daughter that I want to spend every second of my time with.  So often you hear wives/moms complaining about wishing to get away from it all, but I am loving every second of it.  We're trying to fill our days with rest and fun.  And when it comes to fun, we are always looking for ideas that are FREE!

The past couple of weeks we have gone to the public library's story time for toddlers a couple of times, and the Butterfly House at Lost River Cave.  We've also played with water balloons in the backyard.  (Now that was lots of fun!)  We read TONS of books during the day and have gone on a few walks (which we need to do more of).  Kyle and I racked up some gift cards from our sweet students at school, so we have been able to eat out (a lot) with no cost to us!  (So thoughtful!)

Ava was a little scared of the butterflies at first.  Kyle and Mandy kept trying to put them on her or in her hand and they kept flying away.  But then they found this dead one and she grew more comfortable.
She loved it.  She named it Jet Pack Pack Pack.  (I truly don't know where she gets her names.  She has recently named her dolls Formango, Crybaby Crybaby, Rownie, and Kellis.)

Here she is walking on the bridge.  How beautiful is she?

We plan on utilizing the Connection Center at our church very soon.  It has a huge bouncy house that Ava loves to bounce around in!

We'd love you to share some fun free activities that we could do together, if you have any!

The Week is Here!

We can't believe this is the week we will see our daughter. Some of you may be thinking, "What? How do you know? Your due date isn't even until next week!" Well, let me update those of you who may be thinking this. Last week, on Wednesday, we went to the doctor, hoping and praying that my body would be showing some progress towards having a baby. The doctor checked and informed us that the baby is still kinda high, and that I'm not 1 cm dilated, but I'm not 0 cm either. So she told us it was time to make a plan. Here's what she came up with. She said that if I am dilated 2-3 cm by this Wednesday, then she'll send me over to the hospital right then and start inducing me. But, if I'm not 2-3 cm then the following day, Thursday, she would do a c-section. She knew we were going to be on Fall Break and that we'd love to spend a couple of free extra days off with Ava so she said we could do it this week. She's going out of town on Fri...

Can You Hear It?

Yesterday, Kyle and I went to the doctor's office to see if we could hear the heartbeat. As soon as I got there, the receptionist said that our doctor was out delivering a baby and it would be about 30 minutes before she got back. No big deal, I just waited. Then Kyle got there about ten minutes after I did, and we waited some more. And some more. Two hours later, we were taken back to a room where we waited for about 20 more minutes. And finally the doctor was there! No complaining, she's a busy lady! And I had my best friend there to keep me company. What more could a girl ask for....except maybe a cheeseburger-I was STARVING. We were so happy when she came in. I thought I was going to jump off the table. She started telling us about finding the heartbeat and how it could be difficult to find. She told us that if we couldn't hear it, we would schedule an ultrasound so we could SEE it. Well, as soon as she said that I started to get nervous we wouldn't hea...

Thriftiness Fun

Those of you who know me, or have spent at least 5 mintutes around me...know that I am one of the most frugal people on the planet. Why am I such a tightwad? Well...I think I gotta give the credit to my dad on that one. He taught me from an early age the importance of being smart with money. I saved up my birthday and Christmas money when I was very young just so that I could start my first savings account. I started babysitting at age 11 (which I cannot believe), and every bit of that went into my account. I did lots of odd jobs when I was a kid to earn and save a buck here and there, including collecting chestnuts from the giant trees in our backyard to sell at a local grocery store. (Have you ever seen where chestnuts come from?? A baseball sized ball of needles, basically.)  It was a tough job, but I was excited to be earning and saving. So that's the story of my thrifty beginnings, and it has continued to follow me into my adulthood. At this point in my life, saving money ...
